Serie B matches rescheduled under new rule

Three of the Week 6 Serie B fixtures have been put back after a new regulation was introduced today.

Juventus and Brescia were scheduled to play on Sunday October 8, but the Bianconeri successfully appealed on Friday for it to be moved as a large number of their stars were called up for Euro 2008 internationals this week. The Stadio Olimpico tie will now be played at 17.30 local time on Wednesday November 1.

This evening the Lega Calcio drew up new regulations whereby clubs with two or more players called away on international duty can reschedule their Serie B tie. The rule also applies to Under-21 internationals, as long as the two players involved have already featured in 50 per cent of the club’s games in the current season.

The new rule means both Lecce and Cesena's home fixtures this weekend have also been postponed. The league leaders were set to face Frosinone this Friday, while Cesena would've played Triestina on Sunday, but both matches have been moved to November 1.

“We’ve found the criteria for clubs who have international players,” explained Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli after today’s meeting. "It was a useful discussion with objective parameters on which sides have the right to reschedule their games.”
