Week 1: Serie B Kick-off

After a summer of delay and uncertainty, the Serie B season is finally upon us.

All eyes will be on Juventus who begin life in the Cadetti with a trip to the seaside town of Rimini and the small Stadio Romeo Neri. Juve will be strong favourites, but the Bianconeri’s star-studded squad can expect a cold welcome to Serie B against Emilia Romagna’s minnows.

Napoli will look to celebrate their return to the Second Division with a win over Treviso at the Stadio San Paolo. Although Treviso spent last season two tiers above Napoli, the Azzurri are expected to win given their summer additions and their Coppa Italia form.

Frosinone’s first ever Serie B fixture is a long trip to Triestina, fellow newcomers Spezia start at home against Cesena and expect a bumper crowd at the Stadio Alberto Picco. Antonio Soda’s men have their work cut out against a side that fell in the play-offs last term, but there will be a carnival atmosphere after 55 years in the lower reaches of Italian football.

The gravity of last season’s relegation will really sink in for Lecce when Albinoleffe arrive at the Via Del Mare. Zdenek Zeman will settle for nothing less than three points in his first League game back in charge of the Salentini.

Promotion hopefuls Bologna start their campaign in Pescara, while the First Round is concluded on Monday as Vicenza host Genoa.

Arezzo and Mantova are set to open the season on Friday night. Both sides fell agonisingly short last term – Arezzo missing out on the play-offs on the last day, Mantova losing so cruelly in the play-off Final – and will be desperate to get a new campaign underway.

Don't forget Eurosport 2 will cover the Serie B Championship live this season. Check out the 'Live Italian Football' page for more details.
