Rubin Kazan 0-1 Parma
Parma have moved a step closer to the group stages of the UEFA Cup after beating Rubin Kazan 1-0. Daniele Dessena netted the first leg winner and the crucial away goal with ten minutes remaining, but victory was only secured after the Russians missed a late penalty through Dominguez. The Gialloblu will host the return at the Stadio Tardini on September 28.
Sporting Braga 2-0 Chievo
Chievo have a mountain to climb after their nine men were defeated 2-0 at Sporting Braga. The Flying Donkeys fell behind to an early goal from Paulo Jorge and it had looked like they would leave Portugal with a 1-0 loss but things took a turn for the worse late on. Giovanni Marchese was sent off for two yellows, before Andrea Mantovani saw red too after giving away a penalty for bringing down Maciel. Wender stepped up to give his side a 2-0 win in injury time.
Livorno 2-0 FC Superfund Pasching
Livorno marked their UEFA Cup debut with a 2-0 win over Austrian side Superfund Pasching at the Stadio Armando Picchi. Goals from Tomas Danilevicius and Cristiano Lucarelli were enough to ensure a first leg victory and put Daniele Arrigoni's side in pole position to qualify for the group stages.
West Ham United 0-1 Palermo
Palermo have taken control of their UEFA Cup tie with West Ham and will be confident of qualification ahead of the second leg in Sicily. An Andrea Caracciolo goal at the end of the first-time gave them a 1-0 win against the English Premiership side in London.
