Having watched Sampdoria move into pole position in Serie A with a 4-1 win over Bologna, champions Inter promptly re-established their two-point lead by seeing off Catania 2-1.
Inter 2-1 Catania
Inter moved back to the top of Serie A with a 2-1 win over Catania at the San Siro. Sulley Muntari got the ball rolling for Jose Mourinho's side when his attempted pass to Samuel Eto'o found its way into the back of the net with 12 minutes on the clock and Wesley Sneijder followed suit on the half-hour mark with a curling free-kick. A penalty from Giuseppe Mascara six minutes from time made it a nervy ending for the Nerazzurri, who held on to move back above Sampdoria and return to the top of the table.
Sampdoria 4-1 Bologna
Sampdoria maintained their challenge at the top of Serie A with a comfortable 4-1 win over struggling Bologna at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Giampaolo Pazzini put the home side ahead with his sixth goal of the season after eight minutes and a brace from Daniele Mannini and a long-range effort from Reto Ziegler put Samp in command with only 33 minutes played. Marco di Vaio was sent off for dissent on a miserable night for Bologna, who hardly even smiled at their consolation goal from Pablo Daniel Osvaldo on the hour mark. A defeat for Franco Colomba in his first game in charge of Bologna means they will end the weekend no higher than 18th.
