Serie B - Week 9: Weekend Review

Padova 3-0 MantovaSunday 11 October
Padova 3-0 Mantova
Padova show no signs of slowing down and climb to joint second place with this comfortable victory, but Mantova are in dire straits. The visitors had started out well with Simone Cavalli testing the goalkeeper, but Vincenzo Italiano and Andrea Rabito screamers from distance made the difference. Edgar Cani finished them off on the counter in the second half.

Torino 0-1 Modena
Torino's poor form continues, as they are without a win since mid-September and are humiliated on home turf by little Modena. The Granata have now picked up one point from their last three games at the Olimpico and were jeered off the field. They wasted numerous chances, most notably with David Di Michele, but ebbed away in the second half. Juri Tamburini struck right at the death with a powerful header after Matteo Sereni had gone off injured. Toro are now leapfrogged in the standings by Padova.

Vicenza 0-0 Cesena
Second-placed Cesena were held to a stalemate at the Stadio Menti in the early lunchtime kick off, but were fortunate to escape with a point. Vicenza had the best chance when Antonino Bernardini cracked his free kick against the crossbar.

Sassuolo 2-3 Grosseto
Grosseto caused an upset by conquering Sassuolo in this five-goal thriller. Daniele Martinetti had put the home side in front through a precise angled drive from outside the box, but Filippo Carobbio's free kick took a deflection to equalise. Inacio Joelson converted a penalty for a handling offence to turn the game around, then Alessandro Noselli dragged Sassuolo back on level terms by flicking in off the outside of his right boot. Grosseto grabbed all three points when Carobbio converted his brace, although Walter Bressan might've done better on the left-foot finish. The hosts finished with nine players on the field with red cards for Tiziano Polenghi and Marco Gorzegno in stoppage time.

Salernitana 1-2 Cittadella
Salernitana's crisis shows no signs of abating with this home defeat that leaves them rooted to the foot of the table. Dino Fava had given them the lead almost from the get-go, but Leonardo Pettinari drew level and on the stroke of half-time Georgios Kyriazis saw red for the hosts. Both sides were reduced to 10 men for the final half-hour thanks to Daniele Dalla Bona's moment of madness, but late on Matteo Ardemagni gave Cittadella their first away win of the season.

Albinoleffe 1-1 Ascoli
Albinoleffe are still looking for their first home win of the season, as Ascoli catch Torino in the table. Marco Cellini opened the scoring in controversial style, as he appeared to start the move in an offside position when running on to Karamoko Cisse's through ball. Mirko Antenucci rose to nod in Luigi Giorgi's cross for the equaliser on the stroke of half-time. The hosts had Gabriele Perico sent off early in the second period but held on for a point.

Monday 12 October
Frosinone 1-1 Crotone
Serie B leaders Frosinone struggled more than expected against ten-man Crotone and were held at the Stadio Matusa. The visitors were surprisingly aggressive and took control of the game from the very start. They had early chances with Antonino Bonvissuto and Denilson Gabionetta. But it was Frosinone to find the opening goal. Gennaro Troianello's shot was deflected leaving the visiting defence out of position for Vincenzo Santoruvo to comfortably score. Crotone found the equaliser five minutes into the second half with Aniello Cutolo's tap in after a chaotic action in Frosinone's box. The locals came forward but found it incredibly difficult to break their rivals defence even when Antonio Galardo was sent off.
