Serie A - Week 6: Saturday Review

Sampdoria 1-0 InterSampdoria have returned to the top of the Serie A table after upsetting Inter at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris while Fiorentina got the better of Tuscan rivals Livorno.

Sampdoria 1-0 Inter
Inter suffered their first league defeat of the season after slipping to a 1-0 loss at Sampdoria, who replace them at the top of Serie A. Sampdoria's bubble looked to have burst following their defeat at Fiorentina in midweek, but the Blucerchiati bounced back in emphatic fashion to lift themselves two points clear of their opponents in top spot. Giampaolo Pazzini hit the winning goal with 72 minutes gone, side-footing in from a Daniele Mannini cross after a tight, yet entertaining encounter. The visitors poured forward in search of an equaliser, but their best chance came from a last-gasp Lucio free-kick, which Luca Castellazzi saved superbly in added time.

Fiorentina have moved joint second in the table after securing a 1-0 win at lowly Livorno. Stevan Jovetic helped himself to the only goal of the encounter from the penalty spot with 14 minutes left to play after Marcus Diniz brought down Alberto Gilardino in the area. The Viola, who had goalkeeper Sebastian Frey to thank for a string of marvellous saves, then held on for the win despite losing Dario Dainelli after the defender picked up a second yellow card with six minutes to go.
