[Primavera] Palermo and Siena reach final

Siena will face Palermo in the 2008-09 Campionato Primavera final after both successfully advanced past the semi-final stage.

Campionato Primavera 2008-09Palermo qualified for the final on Thursday with a late 1-0 win over Chievo in Trento, while Siena squeezed past Udinese on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes in Pergine Valsugana on Friday.

Both of the finalists will now be aiming to lift their first ever "Trofeo Giacinto Facchetti" at Trento's Stadio Comunale Briamasco on Monday evening.

A strike from Daniele Conti eight minutes from the end handed Rosario Pergolizzi's Palermo a spot in the final after a mainly even encounter with Chievo. The Sicilians have already beaten holders Sampdoria and Viareggio Tournament champions Juventus in the final phase and will start as favourites for the final.

Siena, meanwhile, had to go through the lottery of the penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 result following extra-time. Udinese's Cristian Battocchio struck the crossbar early on and a save by Siena's Aleksandrov Ivanov on Andrea Mazzarani handed them a 4-3 win.

Like their final opponents, the Tuscans also had a tough run in the final phase as they had to get past strong tournament favourites Inter and Lazio. Marco Baroni will now hope his side can complete the season with a historic Primavera title.
