[Mercato] Palermo snap up Bertolo

Palermo have announced that Nicolas Bertolo is one of several South American starlets set to join the Sicilian club next season.

Nicolas BertoloThe 23-year-old Argentine midfielder, who began his career with Boca Juniors before his move to Uruguayan outfit Nacional, has been playing for Banfield in a co-ownership deal this term.

"Bertolo is a Palermo player. The deal is now done," President Maurizio Zamparini told Radio Kiss Kiss.


"Now [Director of Sport Walter] Sabatini will fly out to Brazil and Argentina to finalise other negotiations that are already at a very advanced stage."

It was Banfield vice-President Nestor Villar who first confirmed the transfer of Bertolo to Serie A this week, for a fee of about £3million.

"Palermo directors will arrive in Buenos Aires to define all the details of the transfer and to see Bertolo in action against Lanus," said Villar.

The Rosanero have been very successful in recent years in plucking a number of young talents from South America, with striker Edison Cavani the highlight.
