CL - Last 16: Tuesday Review

Inter 0-0 Manchester UnitedInter were held to a goalless draw at home by Manchester United in the first leg of the Last 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League, while Roma paid the penalty as Arsenal take a 1-0 lead into the second leg.

INTER 0-0 MANCHESTER UNITED
Inter and Manchester United will resume acquaintances at Old Trafford on 11 March with their Champions League first knockout round tie in the balance following an eventful but goalless draw in Milan. The visitors will feel more aggrieved having not produced the away goal their first half dominance deserved but the rare profligacy of Cristiano Ronaldo combined with the exceptional goalkeeping of Julio Cesar prevented the European champions from taking a commanding first-leg lead away from the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. The Nerazzurri looked a completely different team after the break when Adriano miscued his shot with the goal at his mercy. The 0-0 draw, however, means Jose Mourinho's side can go through even with a score draw in a fortnight's time.

Arsenal 1-0 RomaARSENAL 1-0 ROMA
Arsenal hold the advantage at the midway point of their last-16 tie with Roma after Robin van Persie's first-half penalty inflicted another dose of travel sickness on the Giallarossi. Roma have now suffered six successive defeats on English soil although they may feel relieved to have lost by just the one goal given the clear chances the home side missed in the second half to extend the lead at the Emirates Stadium. Defenders Marco Motta and Simone Loria both came close to scoring for the visitors and, Luciano Spalletti's side will have to turn the match around without the suspended Daniele De Rossi for the Stadio Olimpico tie.
