Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck a late equaliser to rescue a point for Serie A leaders Inter in a surprise 1-1 draw at home to Cagliari while Genoa kicked off the new year with an impressive 3-0 win over Torino earlier.
INTER 1-1 CAGLIARI
Cagliari brought Inter's eight-game winning streak to an end with a draw at the San Siro as the Serie A champions struggled to blow away the cobwebs in their first game back after the winter break. Zlatan Ibrahimovic levelled 12 minutes from time to preserve Inter's unbeaten home record this season after Robert Acquafresca had stunned the San Siro midway through the second half. Jose Mourinho's men had looked unstoppable in the two months before the three-week break, but never got into their stride on this occasion and only two glaring misses from Davide Biondini and Acquafresca spared their blushes.
GENOA 3-0 TORINO
Genoa moved into a share of fourth place in Serie A after starting the year with a thumping 3-0 win over Torino. Giuseppe Biava headed the Rossoblu ahead after 18 minuteS and Bosko Jankovic added a second shortly after the break. A third header, this time from Thiago Motta five minutes from time, earned Genoa all three points to the home side. Torino reacted positively after going two goals down, but were unable to get back into the game and they remain just one point above the bottom three.
