Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and winger Mauro Camoranesi face spells on the sidelines after suffering thigh injuries in the 2-1 Serie A home loss against Palermo on Sunday.
The pair underwent scans today and were immediately ruled out of Italy's FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Montenegro on 11 and 15 October respectively, with Siena goalkeeper Gianluca Curci called up.
"Buffon has a tear to his right thigh and it usually takes 30 days to recover from that kind of injury," Enrico Castellacci, the national team doctor, explained.
"Camoranesi's knock is less serious and he will need 15-20 days to recover."
Buffon, only just back from a similar injury, is therefore out of sevral key Serie A matches and the home UEFA Champions League fixture against Real Madrid on 21 October and a doubt for the return in Spain on 5 November.
Camoranesi could be available for the first of those European fixtures as Juve attempt to make up a two-point deficit on the Group H leaders.
