Serie A - Week 5: Saturday Review

Fiorentina 1-0 GenoaAlberto Gilardino scored his third goal in Serie A games this season as Fiorentina defeated Genoa 1-0 in Florence, after Juventus had been held to a second draw in three days in the earlier kick-off.

FIORENTINA 1-0 GENOA
Fiorentina defeated Genoa 1-0 to get their Serie A campaign back on track after their midweek mauling at the hands of Lazio. The home side went close to breaking the deadlock when Adrian Mutu headed a corner just wide. That was the only real opportunity of the first half, although things opened up in the second and Sebastien Frey made a superb save to deny Diego Milito. Visiting goalkeeper Rubinho also had to be alert to turn Marco Donadel's effort past the post, although he could do nothing to keep out Alberto Gilardino on the hour mark as the Italy forward controlled the ball on his head before swivelling and firing a stunning shot in with his left foot. The three points gives the Viola their second win of the season while condemning Genoa to a third away defeat.

Sampdoria 0-0 JuventusSAMPDORIA 0-0 JUVENTUS
Sampdoria were left still searching for their first win of the season after being held to a goalless draw at home to Juventus. The closest either side came to scoring in a cagey game was when Alessandro Del Piero hit the outside of the post for Juve after 20 minutes but the home side were the better side after the break and deserved a draw. The point lifts the Bianconeri above Napoli into a share of second place with Lazio and Atalanta, but was not enough to threaten Inter's lead at the top of Serie A.
