Serie A set for kick off

The new Serie A season begins today, kicking off nine months of entertainment and top-class action from one of the most exciting leagues in the world.

Serie A 2008-09Only 104 days after Inter celebrated their 16th Scudetto, the action begins again as Udinese take on Palermo at 1700 UK time (+1hr for Italy/CET).

Inter, under the new leadership of Jose Mourinho, open the defence of their title later tonight as they visit Sampdoria.


Last year's runners-up, third and fourth-placed sides all start their campaigns on Sunday. Luciano Spalletti’s Roma host Napoli in the Derby della Sud at the Stadio Olimpico in the afternoon, while in the evening, Fiorentina entertain Juventus in the most mouth-watering fixture of the round.

Bologna, Chievo and Lecce are back in the top-flight after their promotions from Serie B last year. The Rossoblu travel to an AC Milan side under pressure to win the title for the first time since 2004.

Second Division champions Chievo host Reggina and play-off winners Lecce visit Torino.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Atalanta face Siena, Cagliari host Lazio and Catania open against Genoa.
