The Romania international has been told to pay Chelsea an astonishing £13.68million in compensation following his sacking by the club in 2004.The Premier League club paid £15.8m to Parma for his services only a year earlier, but dismissed him from his lucrative contract following a failed drugs test for Class A drug cocaine.
FIFPro is surprised Mutu has been asked to pay much of his transfer back to Chelsea as the terms agreed between the London club and Parma were entirely out of the striker's control.
"When the same offence would have been committed by a player in possession of an English passport, then this player wouldn't have had to pay any damages at this dismissal, since the FA Premier League rules do not provide this," read an official statement from FIFPro.
"For this reason this can be considered as discrimination based on nationality.
"It is extremely strange that a player who is dismissed by a club must pay damages based on the transfer amount previously paid for him, whilst he has had no control whatsoever on the amount of this fee."
