Avellino avoid drop to C

Avellino have been reinstated in Serie B after Messina's collapse and will be included in this afternoon’s fixture list.

The Irpini were headed back to Serie C after finishing in 19th place last season, but they have been handed a stay of execution.

Mid-table Sicilian side Messina haven't been able to register for the 2008-09 campaign after folding under the weight of crippling debts.


And the Peloritani’s place has been given to the side that finished highest in the relegation zone.

The Stadio Partenio outfit now have the task of assembling a squad capable of beating the drop next term with little time to do so.
