Serie B Week 41: Review

Sunday 25 May
Grosseto 1-1 Chievo
Chievo secured an immediate return to Serie A with this draw against mid-table Grosseto. Former Livorno midfielder Ciaramitaro scored the all-important goal just before the break at the Stadio Carlo Zecchini. Lithuanian international Danilevicius equalised with his ninth of the season, but the Flying Donkeys held out in a nervy final half hour to regain their place amongst the elite.

Mantova 0-1 Bologna
Bologna squeezed past Mantova at the Stadio Martini and fend off Lecce to keep hold of second place. The Felsinei are one win away from Serie A thanks to Fava's goal just after the hour mark and must now complete the job at home to Pisa next week.

Messina 1-3 Lecce
Lecce kept their automatic promotion hopes alive in style with a deserved win in Sicily. The inspirational Tiribocchi netted in the middle of a Vives brace and the Salentini always looked safe in spite of a Biancolino goal.

Albinoleffe 0-4 Rimini
Rimini's play-off hopes died in spite of this resounding victory over fourth-placed Albinoleffe. The visitors dominated from start to finish against a sluggish Leffe side, whose automatic promotion hopes have now been extinguished. First-half goals from Greco and Porchia set the tone and Romanian midfielder Paraschiv put the game to bed before Docente's last-gasp effort rubbed salt into the wound.

Brescia 2-2 Frosinone
Brescia are assured a play-off spot, but they didn't inspire confidence with this 2-2 draw with mediocre Frosinone. January signing Caracciolo had to save the day for the Rondinelle as his brace cancelled out Martini's.

Pisa 1-0 Spezia
Spezia are relegated to Serie C after this defeat at Pisa, which also confirms the Tuscans' play-off place. French ace Genevier scored the only goal of the game for the Nerazzurri as the Aquilotti were uncapable of executing the Great Escape.

Bari 1-0 Avellino
Avellino were relegated back to the third tier after their 22nd defeat of the campaign at Bari. An early Marchese goal was enough to see off the Irpini who have fallen more than five points behind 20th placed Treviso and are therefore demoted to Serie C.

Vicenza 1-0 Ravenna
Ravenna have plummeted back into Serie C following this narrow defeat at Vicenza. Former Messina striker Zampagna made the difference for Vicenza and the numerical advantage told after Pecorari was sent off for a professional foul as the hosts eased their fears of a relegation play-out.

Cesena 2-2 Piacenza
Piacenza ended a mediocre season with a hard-fought draw against their Emilia-Romagna rivals Cesena, who are already down. The visitors had to come from 2-0 down to claim a point after a spot-kick from Dedic and a Riccio goal.

Modena 2-1 Ascoli
Modena have come out of a miserable spell and secured a win over unpredictable Ascoli. Bruno scored before many fans had taken their seats and Biabiany hit what proved to be the winner after half an hour. The Canarini were run close after a Soncin penalty but they held on.

Triestina 0-1 Treviso
Treviso secured a vital win over neighbours Triestina and they are safe from relegation after pulling clear of Avellino. Brazilian hitman Barreto scored the decisive goal and will hope that he is snapped up by a bigger side in the summer.
