Cagliari have unveiled Massimo Allegri as their new coach for next season following the decision to part company with Davide Ballardini.
The Rossoblu could not agree a renewal with Ballardini, who led the Sardinians to a famous escape from relegation.
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss yesterday, Ballardini said: "Cagliari confirmed me as their trainer for next season, but we then had a disagreement. It was an economic problem."
His replacement Allegri joins after leading Emilian side Sassuolo to a historic promotion from Serie C1.
The Neroverdi have never appeared in Italy's second tier and 40-year-old Allegri is widely credited with the achievement.
Allegri, who made 46 appearances for Cagliari as a midfielder between 1993 and 1995, has signed a one-year rolling contract.
