UC QF: Viola held by PSV

An Adrian Mutu goal was not enough for Fiorentina to secure a win in the UEFA Cup quarter-final first leg as they were held by PSV Eindhoven at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Fiorentina 1-1 PSV Eindhoven
Quarter-Final, First Leg
Fiorentina and PSV Eindhoven shared a 1-1 draw in Italy to leave their UEFA Cup quarter-final tie in the balance. The away goal gives the Dutch giants the edge when the teams resume hostilities in Eindhoven in a week's time, but either team could go on to win. After a goal-less first-half, Romanian striker Adrian Mutu opened the scoring in the 56th minute for the hosts. It was his fourth goal in this season's competition after Giampaolo Pazzini flicked on a long ball to set the striker racing into the penalty area. PSV goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes then punched the ball on to the striker and it rebounded into the net. But the Dutch side were level within seven minutes thanks to a Danny Koevermans effort. The striker received Ibrahim Afellay's pass from the left and netted with a left-footed effort into the top corner.
