Vincenzo Fiorillo was the hero for Sampdoria as they won the 2008 Primavera Coppa Italia against Atalanta on penalties.
After a goalless first leg in Genoa last week, Atalanta started as slight favourites on home soil tonight.
But it was Fulvio Pea’s Samp who had the best chance of winning inside the 90 minutes when they were awarded a penalty early in the second half. However, striker Guido Marilungo blasted the kick high over the bar.
There were no goals to be found in extra-time either as the final went to a penalty shoot-out where goalkeeper Fiorillo saved two Atalanta kicks as the visitors won 4-2.
The home side had their first two penalties from Andrea Locatelli and Simone Perico brilliantly saved as Samp scored all four of theirs including the winning strike from Gianluigi Bianco.
It is the Blucerchiati's first Coppa Italia success at this level.
