CL QF, 2nd Leg: Review

Daniele De Rossi smashed a penalty over the bar for Roma as Manchester United progressed to the Champions League semi-final with a 1-0 win on the night, 3-0 on aggregate.

Manchester United 1-0 Roma (Agg: 3-0)
Carlos Tevez struck the only goal as Manchester United defeated Roma to seal a semi-final match-up with Barcelona. Roma should have taken the lead from the penalty spot after a foul by Wes Brown on Mancini but Daniele De Rossi blasted the ball high over the crossbar. Edwin van der Sar denied Mirko Vucinic as Roma threatened but Ryan Giggs and Owen Hargreaves forced saves from Doni. And Tevez scored with a diving header from Hargreaves' cross to seal the tie. The Argentine struck after 70 minutes and it was a goal that punctured any lingering hopes Roma harboured of a dramatic comeback. Despite enduring a poor start, they showed great spirit to rattle their opponents but now Luciano Spalletti's side will go back home to concentrate on the Serie A title race.

OTHER RESULTS: Chelsea 2-0 Fenerbahce (Agg: 3-2) / Liverpool 4-2 Arsenal (Agg: 5-3) / Barcelona 1-0 Schalke (Agg: 2-0)

  1. I guess you can say that, overall what separated these two sides was the quality/luck in finishing. Roma could have managed more, and should have focused more on zero goals against them in Rome.
