Lavezzi extends Napoli stay

Ezequiel Lavezzi was Napoli’s hero against Fiorentina and sporting director Pierpaolo Marino reveals that the Argentine has extended his contract.

Lavezzi arrived from San Lorenzo in the summer for around £4m and already looks like a bargain.

The 22-year-old has been inspirational on many occasions this term and is even winning comparisons to former Partenopei hero and compatriot Diego Maradona.

It seems that Napoli are keen to protect their prized asset and Marino used last night’s post-match Press conference to reveal that they had extended Lavezzi’s time at the club until 2013.

"I would like to announce that we have added a year to Lavezzi’s contract,” he stated.

"He will now be at the club for five years, rather than four. This shows his attachment to the Azzurri shirt.

"It’s a great source of satisfaction to us because there are so many clubs interested in him."
