Roma's hopes of catching Inter at the top of Serie A were severely dented with a 1-0 reverse at Juventus, after the Nerazzurri had earlier pulled 11 points clear with success against Livorno on a "SuperSabato". It was also a frustrating evening for AC Milan, who were held to a goalless draw at Parma.
JUVENTUS 1-0 ROMA
Alessandro Del Piero scored a stunning free-kick just before half-time to down Roma in the chase for second place in Serie A. The 33-year-old demonstrated his credentials for Euro 2008 selection with his powerful dead ball strike from 20 yards which clipped the post on its way to beating Brazilian keeper Doni. Roma were denied by both the post and Juve 'keeper Gianluigi Buffon in search of an equaliser. The Bianconeri climb to within a point of their second-placed opponents, who entertain Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
INTER 2-0 LIVORNO
Inter prepared for their European clash in the best way possible as they strolled to victory against Serie A strugglers Livorno. David Suazo scored two goals in as many minutes in the first half to give his side all three points and leave the Tuscans looking nervously over their shoulders at the relegation zone once again. With an 11-point advantage in the Scudetto race, Inter can now turn their attention to Tuesday's trip to Liverpool for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
PARMA 0-0 AC MILAN
Even the appearance of Paolo Maldini for his 1,000th game for AC Milan could not inspire the Rossoneri as they were held to a scoreless draw by Parma. Having recorded a 1-1 draw three days earlier against Livorno - a match which saw Ronaldo suffer a career-threatening injury - Milan were desperate to get back to winning ways at lowly Parma. While the means the Rossoneri leapfrog over Fiorentina into fourth place - they know they could be overtaken should the Viola overcome Catania on Sunday. The European champions will now turn their eyes on Wednesday's Champions League tie against Arsenal.
