Serie A Week 19: Saturday Review

Fiorentina moved into the top four in Serie A after two penalties proved decisive against Torino, while Genoa also enjoyed victory against Atalanta.

FIORENTINA 2-1 TORINO
Starting the day in fifth, Fiorentina continued their recent good form as they made it five wins in succession in all competitions. The Viola gained the initiative against Torino when Christian Vieri converted the first spot-kick in the game, awarded after Marco Di Loreto's foul on Adrian Mutu, on the stroke of half-time. It was Vieri's 200th career goal in Serie A. Vince Grella equalised for the visitors on the hour-mark but another penalty, after Mutu went down in the area again from a challenge by Salvatore Lanna, was chipped home for the winner by the Romanian 15 minutes from the end to seal the points for the home side.

GENOA 2-1 ATALANTA
Genoa came back from a goal behind to defeat Atalanta at home to secure their third consecutive Serie A win. A penalty after 65 minutes from Cristiano Doni had given the Bergamo side the advantage but two goals in nine minutes by Marco Borriello (72) and Lucho Figueroa (81) sealed the points for Genoa. It was a win that moved them above their opponents and up into seventh in the standings. The visitors, who hit the woodwork three times and had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside, played in difficult circumstances, with club President Ivan Ruggeri critically ill in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage on Wednesday.
