[Mercato] Cagliari in defender exchange

Cagliari have completed two transfers for their defence, sending Joe Bizera to Israel and bringing back Andrea Cossu.

The Sardinians are rooted to the foot of the Serie A table even after last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Napoli and need to improve their squad during the January window.

This evening the club officially announced that defender Bizera had been loaned out to Maccabi Tel Aviv. His replacement has already been brought in, as Cossu has returned to the Stadio Sant’Elia after terminating his contract with Verona.

Cossu was born in Cagliari in 1980, but only played for the club for one season in 2005-06.

Unless the unsettled Pasquale Foggia agrees a move to another side, such as Palermo or Napoli, this could be the end of Cagliari’s mid-season transfer campaign.

Meanwhile, Catania have signed 23-year-old centre-back Matias Silvestre on loan from Argentinian side Boca Juniors with a view to making the deal permanent in the summer.

Silvestre has scored six goals in 63 league appearances for the Buenos Aires side. Catania are currently 12th in the Serie A standings with 23 points.
