Elkann touched by Agnelli tributes

Juventus shareholder John Elkann has paid tribute to the Bianconeri fans on the anniversary of the death of his grandfather Gianni Agnelli.

Agnelli, known as L’Avvocato, was one of Juventus’ most beloved patrons and passed away at the age of 81 five years ago today.

Hundreds of messages have been posted on Juve’s official website in memory of Agnelli and his grandson appears to have been touched by the affection.

"Dear Juventus fans, I’m very touched to read all the messages that you have written in memory of my grandfather who was without a doubt one of Juve’s most passionate fans of all time," a statement from Elkann begins.

"He loved the Bianconeri above everything else – the club’s determination, the genius of its champions and its unmistakable style.

"Over the last few years Juventus have had to face some great difficulties, but with the help of the extraordinary fans we are winning the battle to return to the top.

"Our objective for this year is Europe and I am convinced that we will accomplish it honouring our history and the values that made our Juventus great."

Juventus start the second half of the season with a trip to an in-form Livorno side looking to repeat their 5-1 win on opening day.
