Serie A Week 15: Saturday Review

Fiorentina missed the chance to go into the Serie A top three on Saturday night as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Palermo, with Lazio defeating Catania by the same scoreline to move seven points clear of the relegation zone.

PALERMO 2-0 FIORENTINA
Fabrizio Miccoli, recently recovered from injury, opened the scoring for Palermo against his former club after 17 minutes. Fabio Simplicio sealed the victory with nine minute remaining to move Palermo back into the top seven after a recent indifferent run. It was coach Francesco Guidolin's first win in his fourth spell as Palermo coach. La Viola's poor form continues with only one point collected from the last four matches.

LAZIO 2-0 CATANIA
A goal at either end of the match saw Lazio inch further away from the relegation zone as they secured a victory over 10-man Catania. A Tommaso Rocchi header put the Romans in front as early as the eighth minute and a brave Catania fightback was thwarted by Gionatha Spinesi's pantomime villain act in the dying minutes as he was given his marching orders. And a last-gasp goal from Goran Pandev secured an important three points for Lazio, who must win at Real Madrid on Tuesday to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
