Fiorentina picked up a creditable 1-1 draw against Greek side AEK Athens - a result that all but confirms their spot in the UEFA Cup last 16.
AEK Athens 1-1 Fiorentina
Group C, Matchday 3
Fiorentina scored at both ends as they were held by AEK Athens despite dominating for long spells in Greece.
The match was Fiorentina's 100th in UEFA club competition but it came during a sad week following the death of the wife of coach Cesare Prandelli after a long illness. Prandelli was replaced on the bench by his assistant Gabriele Pin.
Pablo Daniel Osvaldo opened the scoring for the Serie A side on 29 minutes only for team-mate Federico Balzaretti to deflect Julio Cesar's strike into his own net five minutes later.
The draw keeps the Viola, who needed a win to seal their place in the knockout pahse, top of Group C with five points from three games. They aren't in action in next Wednesday's Matchday 4, but can secure qualification on Matchday 5 at home to Mlada Boleslav on December 20.
Elfsborg 1-3 Mlada Boleslav
Group C, Matchday 3
Czech outfit Mlada Boleslav sealed their opening victory of the UEFA Cup group stages. The Gambrinus Liga outfit grabbed the three points after coming from behind to beat Elfsborg in Sweden.
Elfsborg went ahead on the half-hour when former Charlton striker Mathias Svensson pounced.
Boleslav battled back in the second period and levelled on 67 minutes as half-time substitute Ivo Taborsky fired home. French striker Noel Mendy then put Boleslav ahead with just 11 minutes left before the win was sealed in injury time through Petr Vorisek.
