CL Matchday 5: Tuesday Review

Roma booked their ticket to the knockout stage of the Champions League in spectacular fashion with a 4-1 victory away to Dynamo Kiev while Inter also secured qualification, but struggled to break down Fenerbahce until the second half.

GROUP F: Dynamo Kiev 1-4 Roma / Manchester United 2-1 Sporting Lisbon
Roma confirmed their place in the knockout phase with a comfortable win against Dynamo Kiev that left the Ukrainian side without a point in the section and ended their hopes of claiming the UEFA Cup place.

Mirko Vucinic made sure Roma talisman Francesco Totti was not missed by scoring a goal in each half, and the Giallorossi took command from the outset. First-half strikes from Christian Panucci, Vucinic and Ludovic Giuly made the points safe by the interval and though Ismael Bangoura pulled one back after the break, the in-form Vucinic restored Roma’s three-goal margin late in the game.

In the other game, Cristiano Ronaldo proved the nemesis of his old club Sporting Lisbon once again as his injury-time free-kick completed a 2-1 comeback victory for Manchester United - securing first place in Group F ahead of Roma. Yet it was not a straightforward victory for United, who trailed at half-time to defender Abel's spectacular effort from the right wing. United levelled in the 61st minute through Carlos Tevez and for Sporting this defeat confirms their elimination from the competition.

GROUP G: Inter 3-0 Fenerbahce / CSKA Moscow 0-1 PSV Eindhoven
Inter are through to the Champions League knockout rounds after second-half strikes by Julio Cruz, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Luis Jimenez ended Fenerbahce's unbeaten run.

The assured finishes meant that Inter are already confirmed as Group G winners with a match to spare after a fourth straight victory since their Matchday 1 loss in Istanbul.

Fenerbahçe remain second but must win at home to CSKA in a fortnight to ensure PSV Eindhoven cannot overtake them with three points at home to Inter. The Dutch club kept their hopes of progress alive in the other game as Jefferson Farfan's goal late in the first half for a hard-earned victory in Russia.

GROUP E: Olympique Lyonnais 2-2 Barcelona / Stuttgart 3-2 Glasgow Rangers

GROUP H: Sevilla 3-1 Arsenal / Steaua Bucharest 1-1 Slavia Prague
