Atalanta’s players and coaching staff have made a petition against the violent fans who caused their game against AC Milan to be abandoned on Sunday.
Sections of the Orobici crowd smashed the safety glass despite appeals from veteran Cristiano Doni and other members of the team and now the game may be awarded as a 3-0 win to Milan.
President Ivan Ruggeri has already taken a hard line on the issue and declared that he is willing to close the stadium rather than see a repeat of the scenes.
"The coach and the players of Atalanta back up the position taken by Ruggeri against those whose actions brought shame upon the city of Bergamo after the events of last Sunday," a statement reads on the club’s website.
"We don’t want to see these troublemakers at training or at the stadium."
Sources suggest that the remainder of Atalanta’s home fixtures this season will either be played behind closed doors or at neutral venues.
