Serie B Week 10: Weekend Preview

Serie B is one of the most unpredictable divisions in Europe and there’s another mouth-watering weekend ahead.

After nine weeks, relegation favourites Pisa and Albinoleffe are leading the pack alongside Brescia. Giampiero Ventura’s Pisa have racked up a phenomenal five consecutive wins and will look to continue defying logic as they host an inconsistent Piacenza outfit.

Albinoleffe are also working miracles and they welcome Avellino in a repeat of a relegation play-out from two years’ ago. Since that day the two sides have had contrasting fortunes and while the well-supported Irpini have had to battle back from Serie C, the Bergamo minnows are living in a fairytale.

The most eagerly anticipated tie of the weekend sees Brescia travel to Lecce’s Via Del Mare. Lecce were unexpectedly held by struggling Spezia last time out and will be desperate to reassert their promotion credentials, but the Rondinelle are the new bookies’ favourites to clinch the Cadetti title.

While both sides like to attack, they have each conceded just five goals all term and are miserly in defence. While both teams will look for a win, they may well accept a draw and it could be a cagey affair. But if either side find an early goal, it may be a game to remember.

Frosinone have also been a revelation in this campaign and are flying high as they travel to a Triestina side being carried by Uruguayan striking starlet Pablo Granoche, who is allegedly a target for Torino. Meanwhile, Vicenza will be looking for trusty 38-year-old hitman Stefan Schwoch to step up once more as they entertain Modena.

In the weekend’s other games Stefano Fiore’s Mantova face Grosseto and Verona’s finest Chievo come up against Ravenna.
