Five Italy internationals have made the shortlist for the FIFA World Player of the Year award.

Gianluigi Buffon, current World Player of the Year Fabio Cannavaro, Gennaro Gattuso, Alessandro Nesta and Andrea Pirlo are among the 30 players in the running.
