Siena rename stadium

Siena will change the name of their stadium to the Stadio Artemio Franchi Montepaschi Arena as part of a new sponsorship deal.

They had originally requested to include the name of their sponsors in the title of the club, but this was rejected by the Lega Calcio.

This week the council of Siena accepted a proposal to rename the Stadio Artemio Franchi, bringing precious funds to the side.

"This is an important move for the sporting life of this city," said Mayor Maurizio Cenni. "It is a decision that aims to show the very strong link between the Monte dei Paschi bank and Siena."

Last year the club was sold to a group of investors due to the serious illness of former President Paolo De Luca, who sadly died less than 24 hours after signing over his shares.
