Pato begins Milan adventure

Alexandre Pato has officially began training today with his new Milan team mates after turning 18 at the weekend.

The Brazilian youngster was signed for £10m from Internacional this summer, but as he was under-age could not legally train with the club until his 18th birthday – which he celebrated on Sunday.

"The flight went well and my family came along with me. That was the most important thing. I am happy to be in Italy and I will work to honour this jersey," he said when he arrived in Milan on Tuesday.

He won't be able to play for the Rossoneri in a competitive match until the January transfer window so that his contract can be registered, but he'll make his debut in Thursday's friendly against Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev.

"I know that Milan drew with Fiorentina on Monday and I saw some of the game on television. I hope to be in the stands to watch the next one," he added.

Pato had his first training session at Milanello earlier today and was named in the squad for tomorrow's friendly.

"He will be on the field tomorrow and we hope he can settle in to the squad well, although obviously we’ll give him plenty of time for that. We are happy he is here," coach Carlo Ancelotti said.

"He can play many friendlies with us, especially in the breaks for international duty. We expect to see something of his remarkable quality right from tomorrow. He is a real striker and very fast."
