France coach Raymond Domenech's punishment for making inappropriate remarks in a newspaper interview has been partially upheld by UEFA's Appeals Body today.
Domenech will serve a one-game touchline ban, as handed down by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body on 27 August, for his breach of disciplinary regulations. However, he will not have to pay a €6,000 fine.
The 55-year-old was punished for bringing the game into disrepute by making accusatory comments in August about Italian football and specifically ‘buying the referee’ during the Italian Under-21’s game against France Under-21 in 1999 in an interview with the French daily Le Parisien newspaper.
Domenech will serve his suspension in France's next Euro 2008 qualifier – against Italy in Milan on Saturday.
