Ficcadenti free to lead Reggina

Massimo Ficcadenti has won his freedom from Verona and will be officially presented as the new Reggina coach on Monday.

The tactician had already been named at the Stadio Granillo, but was forced to wait until a legal battle with Hellas Verona was resolved.

He was still under contract with the club until June 30, 2009, even though he was sacked in December.

The fact the club was relegated to Serie C1 made the contract null and void, according to his lawyers, and the threat of bankrupting Verona because of unpaid wages seems to have been enough to force their hand.

In a statement on the official Reggina website, Ficcadenti will be presented to the media on Monday afternoon.

This will be the 39-year-old’s first Serie A bench after spells at Fiorenzuola in Serie C2, Pistoiese in C1 and Verona in Serie B from 2004-05 to December 2006, when he was replaced by Giampiero Ventura.

Reggina will begin their pre-season training on July 11 in Brusson.
