Sonetti confirms Ascoli exit

Nedo Sonetti will not be sitting on the Ascoli bench in Serie B next season after holding showdown talks with the club.

"I’m sorry to be leaving this city and these supporters, especially because I don’t like to go following relegation," said Sonetti after meeting with President Roberto Benigni and sporting director Pierluigi Di Santo.

"This is not my style and you all know that fact, but the club would prefer to go down another path," added the 66-year-old boss.

The Piombino native replaced Attilio Tesser at Ascoli in November 2006 and the team’s form improved considerably under the veteran, but the Bianconeri were unable to avoid the drop.

The former Cagliari coach had already taken charge of Ascoli in the past, when he led them to top-flight promotion back in 1990-91.
