De Biasi departs Toro

Torino have parted company with coach Gianni De Biasi after he preserved their Serie A status in his second spell in charge of the club after a three-hour meeting with President Urbano Cairo on Friday.

The 50-year-old led Torino to promotion last season but was sacked just before the start of the 2006/07 campaign. He was then reappointed in February when his successor Alberto Zaccheroni departed and managed to keep them up, with Torino finishing one point and one place above the relegation zone.

"De Biasi is no longer our coach. We looked each other in the eyes and decided to part on friendly terms," said Cairo.

"The name of the new coach will be announced next week," added the Torino owner.

Toro are expected to bring in Walter Novellino, who left Sampdoria after a five-season spell, and reports suggest that he will be offered a one-year contract.
