Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini has confirmed that Stefano Colantuono is the new Rosanero coach.
The former Atalanta boss extended his contract with the Bergamaschi until 2009 this winter, but recent reports had linked him with a Sicilian switch to replace Francesco Guidolin. "Colantuono signed a deal with us today," said Zamparini to Radio Radio TV.
Guidolin was in-charge of the Sicilians for the final two games of the season, securing a UEFA Cup place for next season, but that's despite being sacked last month following a terrible run of results since the turn of the year which saw their Champions League aspirations disappear.
His assistant Renzo Gobbo and youth team boss Rosario Pergolizzi took over with five games remaining, but after just one victory and two defeats which, left them in danger of missing out on a UEFA Cup spot, Zamparini decided to bring back Guidolin. He won both games and the club finished in sixth place in Serie A.
