Messina have parted company with coach Bruno Giordano and have appointed Alberto Cavasin in his place.
The 50-year-old Giordano has left with the Sicilian club third from bottom in Serie A and without a win in 12 outings, following Sunday's 2-1 home defeat by rock-bottom Ascoli at the Stadio San Filippo. The former Lazio, Napoli and Italy striker had taken charge during the summer.
The club have moved swiftly to fill the gap, however, handing an initial six-month contract to Cavasin with an option to extend for another season.
The 51-year-old had been out of work since being sacked by Treviso last season. He has previous Serie A experience with Lecce and Brescia.
Cavasin will lead Messina for the first time in Sunday afternoon's derby at Reggina.
