The preparations are underway for Monday’s Oscar del Calcio ceremony – the Italian version of the PFA Awards.
The voting from the various members of the AIC (Italian Footballers' Association) was performed during the summer training camps in pre-season.
The favourite for the Player of the Year award is Fabio Cannavaro, who won the Scudetto with Juventus and the World Cup before taking both the Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year awards.
One winner is already known – Luca Toni takes the Cannoniere crown for 2006, having scored a record 31 Serie A goals last season and 10 so far this term.
The six nominees for Best Italian and Best Foreigner are also in the running for the best overall player prize.

Best Italian: Fabio Cannavaro, Andrea Pirlo, Luca Toni.
Best Foreigner: Kaka, Andriy Shevchenko, David Suazo.
Best Young Player: Daniele De Rossi, Pasquale Foggia, Raffaele Palladino.
Best Goalkeeper: Marco Amelia, Gianluigi Buffon, Angelo Peruzzi.
Best Defender: Fabio Cannavaro, Alessandro Nesta, Gianluca Zambrotta.
Best Coach: Fabio Capello, Cesare Prandelli, Luciano Spalletti.
Best Referee: Domenico Messina, Gianluca Paparesta, Roberto Rosetti.
Cannoniere 2006: Luca Toni.
