Zamparini "ashamed" of Guidolin

Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini launched an astonishing attack on coach Francesco Guidolin, claiming he’s turning a good squad into “an embarrassment.”

“I am ashamed of this Palermo side,” slammed the owner after Sunday's 4-0 defeat to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
“Luciano Spalletti proved himself to be an excellent Coach, but Guidolin did not. He has a great squad at his disposal, but is handling it badly. He needs a bit of a rest.”

Zamparini was particularly furious with the decision to field Andrea Caracciolo in a wide midfield role, leaving on-form David Di Michele on the bench until the final minutes. “I get the impression Guidolin wants to be the prima donna, but he is destroying the side this way.”

The fiery patron famously fired Guidolin in the past only to hire him again this summer, but third place is not enough to keep the businessman happy.

Over the past few weeks the Rosanero have lost the Serie A leadership, falling 11 points behind leaders Inter, and been knocked out of the UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia.

“What do I make of Zamparini’s criticism? I’m used to it by now,” shrugged the coach. “I would only cancel the last 20 minutes of our performance in Rome, as before that we had our chances too.”
